Impact Investment Future for Nanotechnology

Professor Kanwar is the group leader and laboratory head of Nanomedicine-Laboratory of Immunology and Molecular Biomedical Research in School of Medicine, Faculty of Health at Deakin University. His earlier research (for nearly a decade in New Zealand) has focused on studying pathophysiology and devising new treatments mainly for cancer and chronic inflammatory diseases. Prof. Kanwar is currently working on nanotechnology/nanomedicine based protein/peptide, aptamers and his research approach employs monotherapy (gene therapy, immunotherapy) and combinational therapy with commercially available chemotherapeutic agents including LNA-aptamers (RNA/DNA), peptides and other biomolecules such as siRNA, miRNA, aptamers, proteins, siRNA, miRNA and their chimera (LNA-aptamer chimera with siRNA/miRNA delivery for targeting expression of survivin (the validated anti-cancer target), HIF-1 and apoptotic signalling molecules in cancer and chronic inflammation.

Alain L. Fymat is a medical-physical scientist and an educator who was educated at the Universities of Bordeaux and Paris-Sorbonne, France, and the University of California at Los Angeles. He is the current President/CEO and Professor at the International Institute of Medicine & Science. He was formerly Professor of Radiology, Radiological Sciences, Radiation Medicine (Oncology), Critical Care Medicine, and Physics at several U.S. and European Universities. His current research interests lie at the interface between science and medicine (precision medicine, nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine, genetics/epigenetics/ecogenetics). He has extensively published (>> 300 scholarly publications) and lectured in several national and international academic, professional, governmental and industrial venues. Ching-An Peng started his academic career as an assistant professor at the University of Southern California in Chemical Engineering Department and later on promoted to associate professor with tenure. He then worked at the National Taiwan University as a full professor and at Michigan Technological University as the first holder of the James and Lorna Mack Endowed Chair in Bioengineering. In 2015, he joined the University of Idaho. Over the course of his academic career, Peng has been involved with research in drug/gene delivery using viral and nonviral vectors as well as ultrasonic device, developing phagocytosis-resistant perfluorocarbon-based oxygen carriers using PEGylated fluorosurfactant and CD47 ligand, photothermolysis of cancer cells using nanomaterials, and detection of antiviral agents using nanobiosensors.

Hans Fecht is Chaired Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Ulm, Germany, and Director of the “Institute of Micro and Nano-materials". He received his PhD at the University of Saarbrücken in 1984 and became professor at the University of Augsburg after postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the California Institute of Technology, USA. In 1993 he was appointed Full Professor at the Technical University Berlin and in 1997 at University of Ulm. He directs a group of about 30 academics, students, technicians and visitors. He has published more than 450 scientific papers, coordinated numerous national, European and international research projects and (co)organized a number of international workshops, symposia and conferences. Hans Fecht was awarded with the Leibniz Prize of the German Research Foundation (DFG), "Pioneer of Nanotechnology" (Deutsche Bank), the Innovation Award of the Association of German Engineers (VDI) and is member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts. In addition, he is the office director of the EUREKA Cluster Metallurgy Europe.

Prof. Fecht directs a group of about 30 graduate students, PhD students and Post-Docs in the field. He has (co )authored more than 450 technical papers, (co-) organized several international conferences (micromaterials) and workshops (EPS, ESA, nanoDanube). He is a member of several international advisory boards and has a long standing history of managing national and international projects in the field of materials science and nanotechnology

Dr. Mohamed TAHIRI has received extensive training in Europe on Innovation, technology Transfer, Intellectual Property Rights and innovation Management. He holds in his faculty a Bachelor on sanitation management in urban areas. He’s conducting R&D in partnerships with various industries. Professor Mohamed TAHIRI is awarded Hassan II Prize on Environment on 2009 by his contribution to disseminate citizen eco initiatives in Moroccan university. He published over 40 general and research articles, organized international meetings and conferences in Morocco (FIERTE Maroc 2007: International Conference on renewable Energies and Water Technologies in partnership with commerce and navigation chamber of Almeria Spain ; MENA Symposium on ‘’Environment analysis and economical evaluation , Marrakech 2009).

I have worked as Professor at University of South Africa, Florida Science Campus, South Africa. Prof Mishra recently recognised as “Fellow member” and “Chartered Scientist” by Royal Society of Chemistry, UK. Prof AK Mishra research interest involves in the broader areas of Nanoscience/Nanotechnology; Materials Science; Polymers; Composite/Nanocomposites; Photocatalysts and Water Research. He is also actively involved in the area of nanotechnology towards the development of smart materials for various applications in the field of materials science and water research. He supervises students involved in the nanotechnology and water treatment research in projects involving organic, inorganic pollutants from both synthetic and waste water solutions. His research focuses aims at developing a protocol which may lead to developing a technology which may be utilized for industrial purposes. He has delivered a number of including Plenary/Keynote/Invited Lectures. For his outstanding research profile, he was awarded a number of international awards. Prof. Mishra also served as Associate Editor as well as member of the editorial board of many peer-reviewed international journals. He is actually principal investigator of many multidisciplinary funded national and international projects. He is the chair of three editions of the international conference on engineering sciences in biology and medicine ESBM. He is associate editor of IEEE transactions on Nanobiosciences Journal and member of the Arab Society of Forensic Sciences and Forensic Medicine.

Professor Walid Tawfik is the Chairman of Department of Laser Applications in Metrology, Photochemistry and Agriculture (LAMPA), leader of laser spectroscopy and ultrafast lasers group and head of the central lab at the National Institute of Laser (NILES), at Cairo University, Egypt. He received his PhD on 2000 in laser spectroscopy “Study of photon molecular interaction dynamics using short laser pulses”, where he did his experiments at Technical Uni. Munich, Germany. He is interested in the fields of laser-induced plasma spectroscopy, ultrafast lasers and ultrafast spectroscopy and smart materials applications. Prof Xinying Liu is the head of the XTL/FTS research group in the Institute for Development of Energy for African Sustainability (IDEAS). He currently supervises approximately eleven PhD students, four masters students and two postdoctoral students. He is in charge of the XTL/FTS research and industrial project development group, looking after the research and industrial project development in the area of XTL processes especially middle and small scale XTL (less than 3000 bpd) and process development for renewable energy solutions for off-grid and rural area applications. He is the process leader in the conceptual and basic engineering package development of a commercial demonstration scale gas to liquid (GTL) plant, in charge of the engineering phase (from conceptual to commissioning) of a mini scale waste to liquid (WTL) demonstration plant.
